Antonio García Castillo Bio

My work develops at the intersection of territory, identity, migration, and historical memory, exploring how these concepts engage in dialogue with the dynamics of global displacement.

In a context of climate crisis, forced displacements, and territorial disputes, my work proposes a reading of the landscape not only as a physical space but as a territory of memory and resistance, where identity and nature are in constant negotiation. Through materiality and the exploration of new plastic configurations, my work seeks to rethink traditional narratives about the Amazon and the Andes, opening critical dialogues on the geopolitics of territory, migration, and emerging ways of inhabiting a world in transformation.

Lives and works between Lima and New York.

Born in Lima, Peru (1969).

Antonio García Castillo is a multidisciplinary artist; graduated from the Faculty of Art and Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, specializing in painting and engraving. His work spans various mediums such as integrated art in architecture, design, engraving, sculpture, textile collage, mural painting, installation, video art, and painting.

His research projects often connect anthropology, socio-political issues, migration, identity, and territory, as well as the revaluation of ancestral knowledge of the living and indigenous cultures of the Amazon rainforest and the Andes of Peru. He maintains working relationships with them in social development and cooperation. Alongside his artistic work, he has developed projects that integrate art into architecture, providing consulting for architects and designers and creating projects for specific public and private spaces.

He has worked as a cultural manager, curator, speaker, and lecturer at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC), the Toulouse Lautrec Design Institute, and the Pecha-Kucha festival focused on innovative projects.

In his academic studies, he has conducted training sessions and workshops at various cultural centers in Peru and Argentina, worked as an artistic director for advertising production companies like Storm Films and Tounche Films, and provided consultation on Amazonian art for Peruvian fashion designer Sumy Kujon.

His most recent work involves a project on historical memory and archival research based on the seminal work of the Italo-Peruvian scientist and naturalist Antonio Raimondi, “El Perú, itinerario de viaje,” an encyclopedia that gathers discoveries and research results in the Peruvian territory during the second half of the 19th century. He draws references from the historical archives of the Museum of Natural Sciences of the University of San Marcos and the archive of the Antonio Raimondi Museum in the capital Lima.

Currently, he works between the cities of Cusco and Lima, Peru.
