Conexiones ancestrales-ecos geométricos
The representations of the Amazon in animals and people find, in Antonio García’s paintings, a definition of flat image. In a first series, in black and sepia colors, made with natural dyes and graphic properties, they turn the complexity of detail into a simple visual message. With this technique, Antonio also documents a sequence about Edwin Chota, a Shipibo leader murdered by those involved in illegal logging in Pucallpa.

«By conviction an Amazonian,» Antonio García has been one of the artists who has accompanied the resistance process experienced in the Amazon, whether by rescuing ancestral painting techniques or vindicating the figure of Edwin Chota, an Asháninka environmentalist who was murdered along with three other companions by illegal loggers in a crime that still has no culprits.

This work calls us to reflect on our endangered Amazon, whether through contemplating the natural materials taken from threatened lakes and trees, but also invites us to partake in the true riches of the Amazon, those found in the vibrant geometries of the Ícaros and kenes, in the master and medicinal plants, such as ayahuasca, that provide that healing of the soul without which there is no possible peace or health.
